North Park

San Diego, California is a city of distinct and diverse urban neighborhoods. The most sprawling of these urban neighborhoods, North Park includes a business district that is almost a downtown unto itself.

North Park homes for sale offer architectural styles as diverse as are its inhabitants. Here you’ll find everything from Craftsman cottages and bungalows, to condos, to apartments, to stretches of retail structures.

If this kind of diversity appeals to you,

North Park could be considered a village unto itself in terms of the events planned and executed by its residents and merchants.

The most famous of those events is the annual holiday parade. Formerly known as the North Park Toyland Parade, it is now called the North Park Lions Club Holiday Parade. But whatever it’s called, visitors from far and wide come to North Park to participate or observe.

Like the neighborhood itself, the parade has seen its ups and downs. First presented in 1931, the parade was suspended for 5 years during World War II. Then it was back. It grew, and became second in popularity only to the Rose Bowl parade.

When fortunes failed to smile on North park in later years, the parade was again suspended from 1968 until 1985. Now, North Park is on the upswing and the parade draws 20-30,000 spectators each year.

But the parade is only the beginning of what North Park has to offer. Ongoing events include:

  • The Farmers Market, held every Thursday
  • Ray at Night – The largest monthly art walk in San Diego, held on Ray Street the 2nd Saturday of each month.
  • Bird Park Summer Concerts – from 5:50 to 7:30 p.m. each evening during the 3 summer months, family friendly concerts offer relaxed entertainment and the opportunity to socialize with neighbors.

Annual events include The Festival of Sustainable Arts, The North Park Music Thing, and A Taste of North Park – where food lovers can sample offerings from cafés, to bistros, to five-star dining establishments.

If you think you’d enjoy the diverse population, the many community events, and the “walking lifestyle” of North Park, now is the time to buy. North Park offers affordable pricing on both condos and homes for sale, but real estate prices are inching upward.
