Hillcrest

Hillcrest, in San Diego
Residents refer to Hillcrest as Metro San Diego’s “Hippest Community,” and others agree. In 2007, the year Hillcrest celebrated its Centennial, the American Planning Association (APA) designated Hillcrest as one of 10 Great Neighborhoods in America.

APA selected Hillcrest “Because of its legacy of activism and trendsetting.”

Hillcrest undoubtedly played a part in San Diego recently being named one of America’s “Coolest” cities.

Hillcrest is a true success story in terms of revitalization and gentrification. But for the residents, the quality of life is what really matters. They enjoy the fact that Hillcrest is “An accepting urban village with a small town feel.” Residents are proud to celebrate their diverse lifestyles while working – and playing – as a community. Here, residents of all ages, races, and sexual orientations join in celebrations, events, and community projects.

If this is the lifestyle you seek, get in touch. We’ll be happy to tell you about the homes currently for sale.

You could say it’s a community that’s proud to be a community.

And residents do both work and play together. Their calendars are filled with events such as a weekly farmers market on the grounds of the local Department of Motor Vehicles, a Book Fair, the Mardi Gras celebration, the annual “Toast to Hillcrest” celebration, and the annual City Fest.

Hillcrest is also the starting point for the Pride Parade, which kicks off the largest civic event in the city of San Diego. That’s the annual San Diego Pride celebration for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community. The Pride Parade begins in Hillcrest, then wends its way south to Balboa Park and a two-day festival.

In addition to tree-lined streets, a pleasing variety of older homes, upscale apartments and condominiums, Hillcrest is known both for its “walkability” and the largest concentration of gay and lesbian-owned businesses in San Diego. These include a wide array of award-winning restaurants, trendy stores, salons and spas, and medical offices. Scripps Mercy Hospital and the UCSD Medical Center are also located here.
